Volunteering

There are lots of ways to get involved and volunteer with NSVL, and there is a role for everyone.  Whether you want to volunteer on a regular basis or just give up some time when you can, we are always on the lookout for anyone who can help.  Volunteering is fun and rewarding, gives you the opportunity to develop skills and experience, and looks great on CVs and University applications.

Here are some of the roles which are available:

Class teacher/Assistant teacher

Teachers come along each week and run classes for our Rookie Lifeguards and Junior Lifesavers.  All new teachers take part in instructor training to gain recognised qualifications, and are supported throughout the year by mentors and experienced trainers.

Lifeguard

Pool lifeguards are needed for our Saturday night sessions.  Lifeguards operate on a rota so there is no need to commit to every week – ideal if you can only come every now and then.

Beach lifeguards are required for various events throughout the year, from our Boxing Day Swim to external events which we provide cover for.

Committee member

Committee elections are held in November and any adult member can stand for a position.  More information on roles will be available near election time.

Beach base helper

On the first Sunday of every month we hold a beach base work afternoon.  This involves general maintenance and cleaning of the beach base, and any members, parents or friends are welcome.  Come along even if only to put the kettle on!

Please note that teachers and lifeguards must have an Enhanced CRB check.  Come along to a session and speak to Julie, our Child Protection Officer, to find out how to apply.
