RLSS Honours 2014

Last weekend two trainers from North Sea Volunteer Lifeguards (NSVL) were honoured by the Royal Lifesaving Society at a ceremony in London.  Donna Robson and Paula Richardson attended the honours ceremony at the Guildhall, where they were each presented with a Certificate of Thanks from former Commonwealth and Olympic swimmer Mark Foster. Donna also received a Certificate of Merit.  Volunteers from across the country were commended for teaching lifesaving skills, raising awareness of water safety and representing the United Kingdom in lifesaving competitions.

Donna and Paula volunteer teach lifesaving skills such as survival, first aid and water rescue to Rookie Lifeguards from age 9 up to Pool and Beach Lifeguards aged 16 and over.  Donna also recently gained RLSS Approved Training Centre status for Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and runs regular first aid training.

Vice Chair Louis Wallace says “NSVL is proud to have its members recognised for their commitment and the hours they spend at the club, both teaching and carrying out committee roles.  Without dedicated volunteers, from poolside helpers to parents who help out on the committee, NSVL club would not exist”.
