Summer sessions

Summer beach sessions are planned to begin on Saturday 30th May 2015 at our beach base on Central Lower Promenade, Whitley Bay. Appreciating the pending relocation of our beach base, we ask that members check our website for confirmation of any change to the weekly venue.

As in previous years, junior club members completing their Assistant Instructor Qualification will plan and deliver the sessions with appropriate supervision. Class teachers/instructors and lifeguards are welcome to attend - please confirm your availability.

The groups will be timed as follows:-

1. Arrive at beach base @ 09.45am for 10.00am - 11.00am session – Rookie Achievement & Rookie Bronze

2. Arrive at beach base @ 11.00am for 11.15am - 12.15pm session – Rookie Silver & Rookie Gold

3. Arrive at beach base @ 12.15pm for 12.30pm – 1.30pm session – Survive & Save Bronze, Silver & Gold

A total charge of £25 per member applies for the sessions (regardless of how many sessions are attended) which includes a club hoodie. Please complete and return the attached form with payment, to ensure a beach session place and club hoodie is reserved.

Please ensure a parent or guardian remains at the beach base while the sessions are in place.

We offer the following information for beach sessions, which new members may find useful:-

Footwear must be worn at all times

Beach shoe, wet suit boots or rock hoppers NOT flip flops.  Alternatively please bring a pair of old trainers. NSVL has a limited supply of spare foot wear which can be loaned on a first come basis.

Wet Suits

Please bring your own if you have a wet suit.

NSVL has a limited supply of wet suits which can be loaned on a first come basis.

Warm Clothes

Warm clothes and water proof jackets are recommended after your child comes out of the sea.

Sun screen, hats and hydration

Please consider the weather and ensure your child has taken appropriate actions to protect themselves from the sun. Please ensure they have a bottle of water.

Club lifeguard hats will be supplied on loan and must be worn (for safety/recognition) in the sea.

Changing room space is limited

Any borrowed clothing must be rinsed and returned to the appropriate store rooms. We encourage our junior members to pitch in with clearing up at the end of sessions. Note, this applies to the NSVL beach base and we will need to consider and respect the availability of changing room and “dry” room space at any alternative venue.

Dry room

Once dry and changed, members are welcome to warm up in the “dry” room. This room is carpeted -please, do not go into the dry room in wet swimwear.

Refreshments will be available for a small donation and contributions of cakes/biscuits will be gratefully received at beach sessions.

Any questions or queries please do ask. We’re happy to share any hints and tips we’ve discovered over the years, that may make it a better experience for the adults and the children.
