NSVL are really proud to announce that 18 of our Rookies and Lifesavers attended a competition at Billingham Forum on Saturday 23rd January.  Events were judged on speed, with competitors swimming under obstacle gates, towing manikins and even taking part in a boogie board race for the younger swimmers!

We brought home 16 medals, with our under 9 boys taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 25m fins race.  This is a massive achievement considering NSVL are still newcomers to the competitive lifesaving scene.  This is the third time we have entered this competition and it’s great to see lifesavers who entered last year keen to have another go, as well as some new faces trying lifesaving sport for the first time.  Working as a team during relay events meant our competitors had to work together and support each other, which paid off for our Under 11 obstacle team who won a silver medal.  Competition Secretary Dan Murray has recently taken on a coaching role within the club and has worked hard over the last few weeks to make sure our swimmers were fully prepared for the competition.

Lifesaving sport is a great way to improve skills and get fit, having fun at the same time.  Competitions vary, some are based on skill in responding to first aid or water based ‘scenarios’ while others, like Billingham, are down to speed.  We always welcome new members and are particularly interested in hearing from adults who would like to have a go.  If you would like to get involved email our Competition Secretary, Dan Murray, on This email address is being protected from spambots.
