November 23rd - IRB Meeting with ‘the father of the IRB’ – 29 November at Noon SLSA Wales Powercraft is pleased to announce there will be a meeting at 12 noon on Saturday 29th November at Aberavon SLSC for all interested members followed by a visit to the Grove Public House from 1.30pm to watch Wales v Australia in Rugby.
We have arranged for Warren Mitchell ‘the father of the IRB’ to visit Wales and share some of the knowledge he has amassed over the last 40 years with IRB Crews from Wales. Warren is credited with inventing the IRB for Surf Life Saving purposes and pioneered IRBs in Australia in the 60s and 70s. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is looking forward to meeting up with the guys from Wales to share this knowledge and having a few beers in the Grove afterwards. He tells me his two great passions in life are IRBs and Rugby Union so hopefully there will be a lot of common issues to be discussed on the 29th!
If you have an interest in IRBs this meeting (and possibly the pub after) is a must.
Hopefully see you on the 29th.

October 15th -IRB CHAMPIONSHIPS SLSA Wales Powercraft Commission is considering holding an Open IRB Championships from 2009 and would like input from Clubs regarding the feasibility of holding such an event in Wales.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council have expressed an interest in hosting an IRB Competition and subject to approval by the Clubs it is anticipated that the inaugural competition would be held in Barry in mid September or early October 2009.
Teams from Wales have previously competed in IRB Championships in Australia and GB with some success and following several requests from members the Powercraft Commission would like to investigate the feasibility of holding a Welsh Championships. In order to make the competition happen we would need a minimum total of 6 boats so support from the Clubs would be essential to make the event happen.
If you have any comments to make or require any additional information regarding the proposed running of this event please email powercraft@slsawales.org before our next management meeting on 11 November.

September 29th - The Sports Council of Wales is keen to promote the work of Culturenet Cymru.
This is a not-for-profit company which documents the history of Wales and the Welsh on a website called Gathering the Jewels (www.gtj.org.uk) Gathering the Jewels holds almost 30,000 digital images of items from museums, archives, libraries and individuals from across Wales.
As part of the Welsh Assembly Government's exciting People's Collection developments to create an interactive, online collection of the history of Wales which will be accessible to all, the Gathering the Jewels project is attempting to put together the history of sport and pastimes in Wales by digitising as many items from as wide a range of sports as possible. They have already made arrangements to work with the WRU, FAW and the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame Collection, amongst others, and are keen to extend this further to a wider range of sports.
They are keen for governing bodies of sport to contribute to this innovative new project; do you have any items relating to sport in Wales such as photos from past games, important competitions, successful teams or individuals? Or maybe committee minutes, shirts, uniforms, balls, medals or cups - they are interested in all kinds of memorabilia. Or maybe if you as an organisation do not possess such material, do you know of any teams or individuals that might collect items relating to the sport?
The advantage of digitisation is that you keep hold of the items when they're finished as they only keep digital images for use on the internet. All digitisation is free of charge and you would retain copyright on the digital images.
They hope that this will be a great opportunity to raise the profile of various sports in Wales by sharing their history and celebrating the achievements of individuals and clubs.
If this is something you are able to get involved with then please contact them direct as detailed below:
