Francis and Jennifer NSVL members Francis and Jennifer Thompson found a novel way of raising money for the club this half term by skating over sixty miles from Tynemouth to Hartlepool and back again.
Read on for more or you can sponsor them here.
Francis swapped his surf board for a skateboard, while
Jennifer donned rollerblades for the journey which took
them from Front Street, Tynemouth through the Tyne pedestrian tunnel
all the way to the beach at Seaton Carew.
They left on Sunday morning at 7.30am, planning to get there by Sunday night and return on the Monday, however things didn't go quite as quickly as planned and so the challenge rolled on into a third day.
The brother and sister team have so far raised over £300 for NSVL, which will be put towards the appeal for a new inshore rescue boat, which will cost over £8,000.
Francis,
who worked as a lifeguard at Whitley Bay beach over the summer, came up
with the idea: "After doing a sponsored swim a few weeks ago I thought
I'd set myself a fundraising challenge in my other hobby of
skateboarding. Originally I'd planned to go to Holy Island, but the
route was a bit too dangerous so I decided on Hartlepool instead. With
Jennifer joining me on rollerblades, hopefully our fundraising efforts
will push the club a little bit nearer the target for buying a new
rescue boat."
