As part of the works to replace the promenade wall at Whitley Bay,
North Tyneside Council are providing us with better access to our
boathouse unit.
The new ramp The boathouse was previously only accessible by a set of
steps which were only half the width of the doors, and the wind always
blew the door shut on the steps side leading to some interesting
gymnastics to get in and out.
This was compounded by the fact that the doors themselves were not
very high, so everyone over 5' had to stoop to get in - or on numerous
occasions forget and receive a glancing blow to the head.
All these problems are now being solved, as the contractors
completing the works have moved the doors to the middle of the unit,
lifted them higher up, and are now building a ramp to access the
boathouse.
The ramp will be an excellent new facility for NSVL, allowing us to
launch rescue craft (and in the near future hopefully rescue boats)
much more easily.
