What a difference a day makes... |

After a relatively storm-free winter leaving Whitley Bay beach with the highest sand levels seen for a number of years, it took just one March storm to obliterate the entire beach.
Down to bedrock at the mid-tide level of the beach, the top of the beach against the promenade did not fair any better, losing a depth of about 1.5m of sand. This was most obvious from our new ramp, built when the sand level was very high, but which now only just reaches the beach...and it's a long way to walk up from the bottom compared to walking on from the side at the top!
At the start... The day before the storm...
After the storm... Just enough ramp...
