We have always tried to ensure that our members have access to the best equipment, resources and opportunities available and now we need you to help.
Whether it is buying the latest bit of lifeguard kit, or supporting our members in gaining recognised qualifications through our bursary scheme, we have always spent our funds on things that will provide the most benefit to our members.
Your fundraising is essential to the running of the club, however, we realise that people find it easier to raise money for specific projects. Similarly, many ideas to improve the club will not cost a great deal in terms of money ut just need some need someone with the enthusiasm and time to commit to develop them. Finally, there are the run-of-the-mill jobs which may not seem big but are absolutely essential to the running of the club.
Therefore, we now have an NSVL ‘wish list’ of all the things we need to do to ensure the continued successful running of the club and to identify new projects that we would like to undertake. Any member who has an idea that can improve the club can put it on the wish list, raise money specifically for that project if necessary and be responsible for its implementation.
Some of the ideas and needs we have identified for the wish list are as follows:
- Fancy helping to run the pool registration desk? We need someone to collect subs, sell clothing and tuck shop items and eventually take over from Maureen in the autumn.
- It has been an ambition that NSVL will hold regular drop-in sessions and we would like someone to take on the job of Heartstart co-ordinator to develop this area and organise these community CPR sessions.
- A grand raffle would be a great way to raise money for the club in its tenth anniversary year. We need someone who can organise and run the raffle, from sourcing prizes, to printing tickets, promoting the raffle, and ensuring we fulfil with Council regulations. Other fundraising ideas include a bonus ball or domino card at the pool sessions.
- We need someone to prepare a display covering the club’s activities and prepare a kit with all necessary items for to promote the club and water safety messages.
- A lifeguard triathlon has been mentioned by several members in the past. We need someone to come up with proposals for an event, covering areas such as when/where, insurance, entry, safety cover etc and then to organise the event itself.
- We would like someone to organise an open day at the beach base in the summer for people to find out more about being a lifeguard or rookie.
If any members or parents would like to take on these ideas and develop them, or you have your own idea please speak to any committee member or e-mail

Remember, it is your club and we need your help to keep things running. Items on the wish list are things that the current committee embers do not have time to do themselves, so if someone doesn’t take them on they won’t happen!
