The NSVL Lifeguard Team

The annual competition, organised by the Northumberland and Durham Branch of the Royal Life Saving Society, sees lifeguards from Blyth to Redcar competing in events to test speed, fitness, lifesaving skills and teamwork.

Lifeguards from North Tyneside Council and North Sea Volunteer Lifeguards have been training together for the event in their free time since May, but after some outstanding individual performances in the run swim run it was the North Tyneside Council team who came out on top with the NSVL team taking third place at the competition held at Seaton Carew, Hartlepool.

But it is a double victory for both organisations as all the lifeguards taking part are members of NSVL along with being employed by North Tyneside Council. 

Donna Robson, Team Manager, said "Despite some last minute injuries meaning we had to drop one of our teams and rearrange the other two, it's great to see both our teams coming home with medals.

"There were some excellent individual and team performances, not least Matthew Jones who came in well ahead of the pack in the run swim run, Alex Tatko who was narrowly pipped in the final rounds of Beach Flags and Alex Watson who scored two perfect 10s in the line throw."
