Lifesavers Paula Richardson, Katie Firth and Rachel Manton (L-R) show off some of the new equipment. The next generation of lifeguards have an exciting new way to practise their lifesaving skills thanks to Metro Radio’s Just For Kids scheme.
The £2,000 grant means young lifesavers from NSVL have all the gear needed to dive into the demanding
multi-discipline sport of lifesaving, which includes events in the
pool, on the beach and in the surf.
The new equipment comes just at the right time for the club, which
recently moved its sessions to the refurbished Tynemouth Pool.
NSVL Trainer Geoff Wade said, “The sport side is a great way to keep
young people interested in lifesaving. No other sport has such a
unique selling point of learning how to save lives while participating.
“Now we have the quality training facilities and equipment we can get
stuck in and hopefully build a squad to enter into national
competitions.”
